2012 started with me finishing my first DIY music video and touring through the southwest USA. I released a remix for Grouplove, that has racked up over 350,000 combined plays on youtube & soundcloud, and one for the London band Citizens!, which led to me headlining some dates on the first annual Kitsuné Club Night tour through the USA in March. It culminated at a showcase in Austin, TX where I shared a bill with a bunch of great acts (Flight Facilities, Plastic Plates, Housse De Racket, etc).
Leading into the spring, I continued to play many one-off shows and made remixes for Australian artists James Curd and Ladyhawke, as well as London act Punks Jump Up. In May, I released the All My Life EP on Kitsuné. It included the house song Your Body, which hit #1 on the Indie Dance chart of Traxsource.com. In June, I went on an extended tour around the country with Dave from Punks Jump Up. While in DC, we explored the National Mall for the first time. It was cool to experience it with a Brit — here is me as George Washington’s Sword of Liberty (don’t bother Googling, it’s not real):
In August, I went on my first tour through Asia. I played at parties in Singpore, Bali, Hong Kong and Macau. In Hong Kong I stayed at the Upper House, which is a 6 star hotel (in exchange for playing a set on their patio). This was the view from my room (click for more photos):
A month later, I went to Australia for another tour. It was my first time there and I was lucky to be staying close to King’s Cross in Sydney during my downtime. All of Australia is beautiful but I really fell in love with Sydney…
Shortly after getting back to the US, I opened for the Presets in Vancouver (great show). Then I headed back overseas to Europe: Barcelona, Zurich, Stockholm, Paris, Istanbul, Perugia, and London. Along the way, I met some fellow producers I really look up to. I opened for Tensnake in Stockholm and while DJing at Paris Social Club, I turned around to discover Breakbot dancing in the booth. I got to spend a week in Paris, which I took full advantage of…
I toured around the USA almost every weekend in December, hitting Phoenix, San Francisco, Denver, NYC, Brooklyn and DC. Finally, for NYE I flew down to the coast of Brazil with my girlfriend to play in a popular beach town (Trancoso). It was my first time in South America and the perfect way to end the year…
In his autobiography, Quincy Jones described how after he spent some time in Paris he felt like a “citizen of the world”. This past year gave me my first taste of what that is like. Thanks to everyone who is helping me live my dream – happy 2013!
PS: Gigamesh – Don’t Stop (Version 2.0)
As, promised, here is a free rework of Don’t Stop from my last EP:
